Wake County Employment/Vocational Services works closely with several partner programs that provide assistance to individuals seeking to improve their employment options by increasing and enhancing their marketable skills.

Employment Services partners with Wake Technical Community College at the Human Services Center at Swinburne to provide short-term job skills training, career readiness certification preparation and testing, and industry-specific trainings. Wake County Human Services offers students additional employment coaching and job search assistance as part of this partnership. Contact Tony Zarcone at 919-212-7104 for additional information.

For individuals who meet eligibility requirements, there may be scholarship funds available to obtain increased education or on-the-job training. One-on-one assistance may be available to assess the need for changing career focus or expansion of your job search. To explore this process:

  • Enroll in NCWorks and attend an orientation session.
  • Access the tools and resources online to develop your career plan.
  • You may consult with an employment or talent advisor to obtain program information or receive assistance.
  • If appropriate, you may attend an information session or an individual appointment to discuss requirements for eligibility.

Wake Technical Community College Human Resource Development (HRD) courses are free to unemployed and underemployed individuals. HRD classes range from choosing an appropriate career path and developing effective job search tools to industry-specific career preparation. Visit their website to register or call 919-532-5696.

Individuals focused on education may benefit from opportunities available through the College Foundation of North Carolina, a free service of the State of North Carolina that helps students plan, apply and pay for college.
