Medicare Savings Program
Medicare Savings Programs are limited assistance programs for individuals enrolled in Medicare Part A and/or Part B. These programs help pay for Medicare premiums, coinsurance and deductibles. As with other Medicaid programs, the level of coverage depends on the individual's income and resources.
If you are eligible for Medicaid to pay your Medicare premium, the process usually takes three to four months to become effective. You will be reimbursed for any premiums deducted from your Social Security check that the State is responsible for paying. If your Medicaid stops for any reason, Medicaid will no longer pay your Medicare premium.
You should find out if you are eligible within 45 days from the date you apply.
