Adult Medicaid

Medicaid is a program that helps pay medical bills for some people who have low income and cannot afford health care. Adult Medicaid helps provide medical care for the elderly, people who are blind or disabled, and people who need help with rest home costs and nursing home costs. The Adult Medicaid office in Wake County Human Services can be reached at 919-212-7541.

Medicaid offers several different kinds of coverage for people with different needs. The most common types of coverage are:

  • Private Living Assistance (PLA) – for those living at home
  • Special Assistance (SA) – for those residing in an adult care home, family care home, rest home or other domiciliary care facility
  • Long-Term Care (LTC) – for those residing in a nursing home and requiring intermediate or skilled nursing care
  • Community Alternatives Program (CAP) – an alternative to nursing home placement that provides nursing and personal care services to clients in their own homes and communities
  • Medicare Savings Program – helps pay for Medicare premiums, coinsurance and deductible
