World Breastfeeding Week 2011Talk to Me!… Breastfeeding a 3D Experience
Celebrate with us the 20th Anniversary of World Breastfeeding Week.

Communication is an essential part of protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. We live in a world where individuals and global communities connect across small and great distances at an instant's notice. New lines of communication are being created every day, and we have the ability to use these information channels to broaden our horizons and spread breastfeeding information beyond our immediate time and place to activate important dialogue.

We strive to:

  • Promote and encourage a public environment supportive and accepting of breastfeeding.
  • Empower more women to choose breastfeeding and to breastfeed their infant for a longer duration.
  • Influence and educate workplaces, educational institutions and childcare facilities to adopt policies that are more friendly to and supportive of breastfeeding families.

Promoting and supporting breastfeeding is a core function of the Wake County WIC Program. With two IBCLC’s, numerous breastfeeding educators, and nine Breastfeeding Peer Counselors on staff plus a Breastfeeding telephone warm-line (919-250-4720, option 6) , WIC reaches out to moms and their babies to help make breastfeeding an easier experience that benefits the family for a lifetime. Breastfeeding classes, telephone support, home visits and a welcoming walk-in policy for breastfeeding assistance are some of the services pregnant women and moms with new babies receive. The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are available at the main Sunnybrook site as well as the regional centers. They encourage, educate and support moms making infant feeding decisions. WIC Peer Counselors assist moms and babies learn to breastfeed successfully and to avoid or resolve early feeding challenges.

All WIC staff are breastfeeding friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive of breastfeeding – so talk to us!
