Working for Kids
Wake County's Working for Kids program assists noncustodial parents who are unemployed or underemployed obtain employment with wages high enough to both support themselves and to make required child support and arrearage payments.
How we do it:
Working for Kids program case managers work one on one with clients to determine needs, set goals and provide support and referrals. Services include job readiness training, job placement, skills training, budget counseling, parenting skills training, advocacy, and assistance with child support issues, among others. Referrals for education/vocational training, legal services, mediation services, substance abuse treatment, mental health services and other services are provided.
Participating in the Program
Parents interested in receiving services from Working for Kids must meet certain eligibility requirements, which include having a child who receives Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or other types of assistance.
