Adult Care Facilities

Types of Facilities:

The decision to seek long-term care outside the home for a loved one can be very difficult for many families. This usually happens following a decline in a person's health or mental abilities, or the realization that care needs cannot be adequately met at home. Moving a family member is usually a decision of last resort. In reality, however, many adults are very happy living in long-term care settings and experience improved mental and physical health, increased social interactions and greater personal safety.

There are many kinds of residential facilities for adults and their families to choose from. Facilities are licensed and categorized based on size, services provided and population(s) served. The decision to choose a specific facility should be well researched and thoroughly discussed with the adult who will be living there. In today's world, people are living longer, so the facility you choose now could be your loved one's home for many years to come.

Nursing Homes
Nursing homes are often confused with adult care homes. A nursing home is a facility that is advertised or maintained for the express purpose of providing nursing or convalescent care to three or more persons unrelated to the licensee. Nursing homes provide care for persons who are not sick enough to require general hospital care but do need nursing care. Learn more.
