Adult Guardianship Program
Overview
Wake County's Adult Guardianship Program works to enrich the lives of people who have had a public guardian appointed by a court of law.
Who We Serve:
Our clients include people who are elderly, medically frail, developmentally disabled, mentally ill or hearing-, speech- and/or visually impaired. We also serve people with dementia, brain injuries and clients with a combination of issues.
What We Do:
Guardians serve as surrogate decision makers, and may make decisions regarding client needs and living arrangements. Guardians also visit clients, coordinate care, advocate for appropriate treatments and services, and are available for emergencies 24 hours a day.
What We Can't Do:
We can't force people to act in their own best interest. For instance, we cannot force medical or other treatments, prevent self-destructive behaviors and relationships, or prevent a person from leaving an unlocked facility.
Starting the Process:
If you are ready to begin the adult guardianship process or you have questions about this program, please call 919-212-7059.
