Human Rights Committee
The Human Rights Committee (HRC) is a committee of the Wake County Human Services Board of Directors. HRC members help establish policies and procedures that affect clients. Members of the HRC are often consumers of human services themselves, or are family members of or advocates for consumers.
Responsibilities of HRC Members
Members of the HRC are expected to:

Contribute to the promotion and protection of the rights of consumers of Wake County Human Services

Review complaints and grievances

Advocate for people and the services they need

Attend 1-2 meetings per month for a maximum of 3 hours total

Occasionally write legislators or other policymakers as advocates

Help the agency know the consumers' perspective better.
To become an HRC member, you must:

Complete an application and provide some biographical information

Express an interest in advocacy

Be nominated by the HRC to the Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors

Be approved by the Board.
Committee Information
The HRC meets on the first Thursday of every month at the Human Services Center at 220 Swinburne St., Raleigh, in the 5th-floor Board Room (5032). The HRC has two subcommittees that meet as needed. A light lunch is provided at all noon meetings for HRC and subcommittee volunteers.
Staff support to the HRC is provided by the Consumer Rights Program and by staff from mental health and public health programs.
