Human Rights Committee
The Human Rights-Consumer Affairs Committee is advisory to the Wake County Human Services and Environmental Services Board. Its primary purpose is to protect and promote the rights of clients of a consolidated human services agency. It is composed of Board members, consumers, family members, and advocates.
Responsibilities of HRC Members
- Attend one committee meeting per month
- Advocate for people and the services they need
- Review customer data and make recommendations for improvement
- Review research proposals to use agency clients as human subjects
- Review clients' rights related issues and initiatives, and inform the Board as necessary
To become an HRC member, you must:
- Be a HS & ES Board Member assigned to the Committee OR
- Be a consumer of agency services, community advocate, or family member of a consumer AND
- Complete an application and attend several meetings
- Be recommended for nomination to the Committee by the Chair
- Be approved by the Board.
Committee Information
The HRC meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Human Services Center at 220 Swinburne St., Raleigh, in Room 5032. A light lunch is provided. The Consumer Affairs Office provides staff support to the Committee.
