The following items are available for download:
1. Topographic Data, Soil Data, 2005 – Digital Orthophotographs (County-wide) and City of Raleigh Planimetrics
- DXF property files (w*.zip) are updated quarterly. The dxf version is DXF_R2005.
- Two-foot contour topographic data tiles are available county-wide. These tiles are named t06_tilenumber (compiled from 2006 orthophotography) within Raleigh ETJ OR t99_tilenumber (compiled from 1999 orthophotography) outside of Raleigh.
- There are instances of contours that do not meet; you may need to edit these manually before further processing.
- Planimetric data is available within the City of Raleigh ETJ only. The Planimetric naming convention is p06_tilenumber.zip
2. Countywide Shapefiles (as well as select Raleigh and Cary layers)
Shapefiles are updated monthly (where appropriate).
- Type and Use Codes per Wake County Revenue
- Property/Tax shapefile available in four zipped files (propertyne.zip, propertynw.zip. propertyse.zip and propertysw.zip) or as one large file (parcel.zip)
- Shapefile and MrSID file formats viewable with a free viewer downloaded from esri.com (ArcExplorer 2).
3. Metadata Zipfile for all layers
Wake County data is stored in NAD83 State Plane Feet. Additional details about the data are available in the metadata files.

If you are having trouble unzipping a file:
Please check to be sure you have the newest version of WinZip (or other file-extracting program) installed. The zipfiles are not self-extracting. Download WinZip.
You may download an UNZIPPED version of our parcel file from our ftp site: ftp://wakeftp.co.wake.nc.us/GISAPPS/parcel_data:
- Click on the link: ftp://wakeftp.co.wake.nc.us/GISAPPS/parcel_data
- Edit – Select All (or CTRL + A)
- Right-click – Copy to folder
- Choose the folder on your local drive where you want to store the data.
Please note: The unzipped parcel shapefile is large; the file may take a long time to download (dependent upon the speed of your Internet connection).

2005 countywide Orthophotography tiles are available for download from this site. 2005 Orthophotography metadata is available in the metadata zipfile. The 2005 Orthos (color & black and white) are also available on iMAPS; choose the Aerial Photography View (below the map).
Please note: The new Orthophotography was clipped based on the index100 grid, which is available for Download in the Grids.zip file on our Shapefile Download page. The Index 100 Grid is also available on iMAPS on the Aerial Photography View.
The new grid is similar in structure to the map grid interface on this site, which was created for the 1999 Orthophoto download. In most areas within Corporate Limits, the tile numbers will match the map interface you see on this Download site. In areas outside Corporate Limits, the Mapsheet number will be the same, but the extension number (SCALE_100 field in the Shapefile) will be different.
If you are using ArcView 3.x, you may need to download a patch from LizardTech to view the 2005 images: LizardTech Patch. If you are using ArcGIS 8.3, you will need to download the patch for Generation3 MrSID images from the esri.com website.
The 2005 Orthophotography is available on DVD. The cost is $40 for Black & White (2 DVDs) and $80 for Color (4 DVDs). Please call our Customer Service Team at 919-856-6360 to order.
