Restaurants, Food Stands, Meat Markets

There are more than 2,400 restaurants, food stands and meat markets in Wake County. Ensuring proper sanitation at these establishments is important for public health. Restaurants and food stands differ in that food stands do not provide seating or public restrooms.

Online health inspections are available soon after the inspection is completed.

Inspections
Restaurants, food stands and meat markets are inspected based on their menus and how the food is processed. Depending on the risk to public health, establishments are inspected one to four times each year.

You must have a health permit to operate a restaurant, food stand, or meat market. Permits do not transfer from owner to owner. Save time and money – contact the Wake County Plan Review Section before you buy, build or remodel to find out what the requirements are.
