Chief Officer of Clinical Affairs


Ryan Lewis is a native of Wilmington. He is a 1997 graduate of the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program at Oklahoma State University and is a candidate for a Master's degree in Fire and Emergency Management Administration, also from OSU. In 2003, Ryan completed a one-year fellowship in EMS Performance Improvement, supported by a Duke Endowment grant.

Before coming to Wake County EMS, he last served as a Special Operations Paramedic for New Hanover Regional EMS – experience he uses in coordinating Wake County's Urban Search And Rescue Medical Team and Advanced Life Support/Hazardous Materials medical providers.

As Chief Officer of Clinical Affairs for the Wake County Department of EMS, Ryan acts as the electronic call reporting system manager and serves as the primary staff officer to the Medical Director. In addition to data collection, analysis and process improvement activities, he is active in field response and performance observation. Ryan also serves as the EMS representative to the Wake County Child Fatality Prevention Team and Community Child Protection Team.

Chief Lewis lives in Clayton with his wife and daughter.
