Chief Officer of Professional Development And Education


Chief Officer Joseph Zalkin is responsible for professional development and system relations for the Wake County Department of EMS. Some of his responsibilities include:
  • Oversees the Division of Professional Development
  • Manages The Rescue Squad/EMS subscription program
  • EMS representative to the Wake County Domestic Preparedness Task Force
  • EMS representative to the Regional Access to Care Committee
  • EMS representative to the State EMS Committee

Joseph began his career at Wake County as a Training Officer in 1981.  He was responsible for upgrading Wake County from an Intermediate to a Paramedic level of service, teaching the first paramedic class offered in Wake County. 

Originally from Greensboro, Joseph lives in Raleigh.
