Executive Officer


Chris Colangelo is responsible for the administration and planning functions for the Department of Wake County EMS. Specifically, he oversees:

  • Division Standards
  • Human Resources
  • Recruitment and Hiring
  • Compliance with North Carolina administrative rules governing EMS
  • Budget

Executive Officer Colangelo began his career with Wake County EMS in January 1993 as a paramedic. He was promoted to Field Training Officer in 1998, to Assistant Chief of the Wake EMS Division in 2003 and to his current position in 2009.  Prior to coming to Wake County, he had emergency service experience in Hampton, Va., and St. Mary's County, Md.

He is a graduate of Wake Tech Community College with an Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Science as well as Campbell University with a Bachelor of Health Science.  He is currently a Master's candidate in Human Resources from Western Carolina University.

Chris lives with his wife and daughter in Clayton.
