Wake County EMS participates in the National EMS Memorial Service

On Saturday, May 27, 2007, a delegation from the Wake County EMS Division participated in the National EMS Memorial Service in Roanoke, Virginia.
The mission of the National EMS Memorial Service is to honor and remember those men and women of America's Emergency Medical Services who have given their lives in the line of duty, and to recognize the sacrifice they have made in service to their communities and their fellow man.
Our contribution to the memorial service included the following:
HONOR GUARD
- Senior Paramedic Patrick O’Boyle – Entry Guard
- Paramedics Chris Gherardi and Mike Franklin – Color Guard
- Paramedic Chris Mills – Flag Bearer (North Carolina State Flag)
MUSIC
Assistant Chief Tony Crawford – piper with the United Pipes and Drums of the National EMS Memorial Service.

ESCORT OFFICER
Division Chief Bennie Collins served as escort for Mrs. Linda Kolb, wife of EMS Aviation Pilot Karl August Kolb, who was killed in the crash of an Albuquerque Med Flight EMS Lear Jet on October 24, 2004.
PRESENTER
Chief Skip Kirkwood presented the Eternal Memorial Medallion to the families of each of the sixteen fallen EMS professionals honored at this year’s service.
The National EMS Memorial Service was a dignified and professional remembrance of our fallen colleagues from around the nation. The participating group has committed themselves to continued participation in the event, as well as to encouraging the participation of other North Carolina EMS agencies to the support of the service.
