The Medical Director

Brent Myers, M.D., MPH, FACEP, is the medical director for the Wake County EMS System. He is the sixth medical director for the System, and the first full-time medical director. He is responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of the EMS System including protocols, certified personnel, continuing education, and Emergency Medical Dispatch.
Dr. Myers received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994. From there, he attended Wake Forest University and graduated in 1998 with his Doctor of Medicine. He completed his residency in 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. In 2002, he did a Fellowship in EMS at UNC Hospital. The same year he completed his Masters in Public Health at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.
Dr. Myers also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at UNC School of Medicine. He practices Emergency Medicine with Wake Emergency Physicians, PA, within the WakeMed Health and Hospitals System.
In 2008, Dr. Myers was named Director of the Department of EMS for Wake County. He oversees the Wake County EMS Division, the five contract providers and the Office of Medical Affairs within the EMS System.
Dr. Myers is an accomplished speaker and frequently lectures at national EMS conferences. In addition, he is an accomplished author, a member of the consortium of U.S. Metropolitan municipalities EMS Medical Directors, or "Eagles," was named 2006 Medical Director of the Year by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), and was named one of the 10 EMS Innovators in 2008 by the Journal of Emergency Medical Services. He serves on multiple committees, including the North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians' EMS Committee and the North Carolina Office of EMS' Disciplinary Committee.
