Continuing Education

classroomThe Office of Professional Development offers a broad spectrum of learning opportunities including traditional classroom and didactic material, online learning using the Blackboard Learning System, CD-ROM learning courses produced in-house, video, psychomotor, field practice, clinical and others as determined necessary to meet the learning needs of all persons affiliated in the system.

Continuing education requirements are modified based on feedback from system data collected via audit of patient records and outcomes, needs assessment, Continuing Education Committee recommendations, personnel evaluations, feedback from clinical staff, and medical director recommendations. In-house ACLS, PALS, BTLS, and BCLS recertifications are also among the educational offerings.

Continuing education classes are offered on a monthly basis to the personnel affiliated with the System. Odd months are mandatory for all EMT-Is and Paramedics within the System and for Wake County EMS employees. The Medical Director, Brent Myers, MD, conducts these classes and topics are driven by system Q/A data. Even months are also mandatory for Wake County EMS personnel, and optional for System personnel.

All professional development classes are held at the Professional Development Training Center located in the Wake County Office Park. The 5,000 sq.ft. Training Center is a state-of-the-art facility built in 2002. The Training Center has a spacious classroom, two conference rooms, an audio/visual studio, and contains the offices for the Professional Development staff.
