Wake County EMS is a division of Wake County Public Safety. We are responsible for the delivery of emergency care throughout North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh and many of the surrounding communities. We are a 911-only, dual paramedic department.
Our Paramedics Enjoy:
- Outstanding clinical protocols, that allow paramedics to do what they do best with the utmost flexibility and independence. Click here to check them out.
- A great clinical environment, which provides and documents a 98.5% intubation success rate and a 23% annual cardiac arrest save rate (confidence interval 13% - 31%) using the Utstein criteria. We also monitor patient outcome data from our receiving hospitals and provide feedback to line members.
- Excellent relationships with our region's hospitals and our outstanding AED equipped first responder agencies.
- Starting salary based on experience. A comprehensive county benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, local government retirement, and a 5% "no match required" contribution to your 401(k) account. Tuition reimbursement of up to $1200 per year after one year of service, in an "educationally rich" environment. Click here for more details about our benefits package.
- State of the art equipment, including Type III ambulances (replaced every four years), physiologic monitoring devices (12-Lead, ETCO2, Sp02, NiBP), 800 MHz digital radio system, and outstanding Emergency Medical Dispatch support.
- Station-based, two paramedic units operating on 12- and 24-hour shifts.
- An outstanding, committed, full-time, board-certified and EMS fellowship-trained Medical Director who participates on a daily basis in managing the service and providing care in the field. This year, we have been joined by an "EMS Fellow," a residency-trained emergency physician (and former paramedic and paramedic educator) who is spending a year studying EMS medical direction in Wake County. - Paid continuing education every month (more than 72 hours of medical education offered each year) featuring outstanding guest faculty, in our dedicated, state of the art training center. We offer "just in time" training based on our recent clinical and operational experiences, and offer everything you need to maintain National Registry EMT-P certification without additional training.

We field a regional Tactical EMS Team and Hazardous Materials/Urban Search and Rescue medical support team that responds with our regional HAZMAT and USAR teams. After you've mastered all-around field EMS delivery, if you meet the standards and have the desire, you can attend tactical EMS, advanced HAZMAT, or USAR medical specialist training.

- A variety of employee committees that participate in everything from equipment selection and evaluation to professional peer review and oversight.
