It had been a long week for North Carolina State Representative Becky Carney, D-Mecklenburg. She had just left a meeting at the General Assembly and went back to her office to finish some work before heading back to Charlotte.
Tazra Mitchell, Rep. Carney's assistant, found her unresponsive at her desk and called for help. Rep. Carney was suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Her co-workers started CPR and used the on-site Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Thanks to the quick actions of her co-workers and several State Capitol Police Officers, Wake County EMS was able to restore her heart function.
Representative Carney returned to work just two months after she died.
