I’ve applied to Wake County before September 4, 2018. Do I still need to create a profile?

Yes. Any log in used prior to September 4, 2018, will not work in the new ATS. You will need to create a new profile to store your information, save job searches, and check your status.

What is the best resume format to use in the ATS?

The ATS system will “read” your resume and attempt to parse your information into the system, saving you time and lessoning the chance for errors caused by additional typing. View this example of a resume that will properly parse into the system. In addition, you can assist the system in properly parsing your resume information by following these tips:
  1. Do not use templates! A standard Word document, saved in .doc format, is all you need.
  2. Use simple formatting. Do not use headers, footers, borders, lines, or shading.
  3. Customize each resume for the specific position you are applying for. “One-size-fits-all” is not the best approach for today’s job seekers. Use job specific language from the posting and be specific.
  4. Use keywords and phrases in context. Descriptive achievement-oriented bullet points are key; do not just include them as a list of skills or competencies.
  5. Edit Carefully! The ATS will not correct misspelled words.

What happens after I apply for a position with Wake County?

After you apply for a position, your resume and qualifications will immediately be submitted into consideration for the position(s) to which you applied. Our recruiters carefully review all applications received, verifying they meet the advertised requirements, preferences, and needs of the position. If it is determined that you are among the most qualified, your application will be forwarded to the hiring manager for departmental review. If you are selected for an interview, the hiring department will contact you directly. Please note, due to the large volume of applications received, we cannot contact everyone who applies.

How long is a position open to receive applications?

If a posting is still on our careers site, it is still open to receive applications. The earliest date that a position may close for new applications is indicated by the “Posting End Date.” Once a posting has closed, you will no longer be able to apply to the position.

How long should I expect to wait until I hear something back once I’ve submitted my application?

The duration of the recruitment process with Wake County Government can vary dramatically depending on many factors such as the number of applicants, the availability of the interview panel, etc. In addition, a majority of the day-to-day recruitment and selection process occurs within the individual departments which means daily operations, number of vacancies, and other commitments can prolong the recruitment process. While we strive for recruitments to occur as quickly as possible, finding the right candidate is of utmost importance. Therefore, it is not uncommon for recruitments to last weeks, or even months for our more complex recruitments. You may check the status of your application online by logging into your Candidate Profile.
