Our Office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m. Identification is required to enter the Wake County Office Building. Wait times for filing may vary, so please be prepared to spend at least an hour to complete your forms and discuss your Campaign Finance committee.

• All Candidates are required to have a committee to run for office. You can choose to form a committee before filing or at the time of filing for candidacy. Your Statement of Organization Pack is due no later than 10 days after the formation of your committee. The date of organization of your committee begins when you open a bank account for your committee, state in a public forum your intent to run, begin spending or receiving funds on behalf of your committee, or file for office whichever of these happens first.

• A staff member will assist you in filing your candidate paperwork. Forms already filled out before filing cannot be accepted.

• All Candidates must sign in when they arrive for filing. You will be called in the order you arrive. If you must leave for any reason and your name is called in your absence, you must sign in again once you return.
  
  
• There is no cell phone use in the Board of Elections lobby. All calls must be made in the hall. Once again, if your name is called in your absence, you must sign in again once you return.
  
  
• A staff member will verify your registered districts. Pursuant to NCGS §163-294.2(b) you must reside and be registered in the ward in which you intend to run. Your voter profile will be issued to you.
  
  
• A staff member will walk you through the filing forms. They will be completed, signed, and notarized. You will be given a copy of the filing forms for your records as well as a 2013 Candidate Information Packet.
  
  
• Filing fees are received when you file. Fees in excess of $50 must be made by check or money order. Consult the following list to find your filing fee:

• You will have an opportunity to discuss your Campaign Committee with the Campaign Finance manager. Please review the Campaign Finance information provided and be prepared with any outstanding questions.

• If you have a previous campaign committee with our office, please make sure all information is current and accurate. If you have questions about the status of your committee, please email candidates@wakegov.com. If you need to make any changes to your committee, please use the necessary forms provided below:

• Certification of Financial Account Information
• Certification of Threshold
• Return to Active Status
• Certification to Close Committee
  
  
• New committees should decide if they will raise or spend greater than $1,000 in support of their candidacy. If you intend to spend under $1,000, you should complete a Certification of Threshold form to be exempt from the municipal reporting schedule.
  
  
• ALL committees should consult the following information on Campaign Finance to assist in understanding the procedures, completing the forms, and remaining in compliance.

• Committees are required to have a treasurer. The treasurer cannot be the candidate’s spouse and must be a resident of North Carolina. The treasurer must attend training at the NC State Board of Elections Office. A copy of the training schedule is included in the Candidate Information Packet issued at filing and on the NC State Board of Elections website.
  
  
• Completed forms should be mailed to our office before the deadline. Please refer to the Campaign Finance Reporting Schedule to find the deadlines for all 2013 reports.
