Water Quality Division
Water Quality is a division of the Environmental Services Department. It is responsible for several areas pertaining to water and wastewater, including:
On-site Wastewater: permits, inspections and complaints related to subsurface on-site wastewater disposal (i.e., septic tank systems); also includes enforcement of local ordinance for mobile home parks. Currently, almost a third of all development in the county is supported by on-site wastewater disposal.
Well Program: permits, inspections, complaints related to individual on-site water supplies.
Technical Assistance & Systems Management: Soil scientists and engineers are responsible for technical support of the On-site Wastewater Program, oversight of large community systems and all other wastewater systems that require periodic review, the handling of consultant proposals, etc.
Water Quality: oversight of community "package plants" or small wastewater treatment plants that have a discharge to a stream, ambient sampling of recreational and surface waters; also handles calls from Public Safety regarding hazardous waste and spills and manages emergency response.
