Wake Energy Advisory Commission to Conduct Annual ENERGY Camp

The Wake County Citizen's Energy Advisory Commission, with the financial support of corporate sponsors, is conducting the annual ENERGY Camp the week of July 14-18, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

The campers are 40 rising sixth-graders from across Wake's public, private and home schools. Camp staff consists of Wake County Public School teachers and other professionals associated with energy-related businesses in the public and private sectors.

Activities for the week include: assembling solar cars and solar cookers, observing electricity being generated at a nuclear power plant, examining cars of the future, taking field trips to N.C. State University and the Solar Center, exploring Marbles Kids Museum, and visiting Historic Yates Mill County Park.

The Wake County Citizen's Energy Advisory Commission promotes the conservation of energy in government, industry and the home through a comprehensive and coordinated approach. ENERGY Camp is one of the commission's many initiatives.
