Board Meeting Schedule & Procedures

The Board meets on the first and third Mondays of each month (unless changed for holidays or other reasons) in the Wake County Justice Center, 300 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, Room 2700, 2nd floor. Meetings begin at 5 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, with a public comment period as part of each meeting.

Members of the public who would like to submit public comments may do so in writing between 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the meeting, via one of three methods:

  • a link that will be posted on the signup page;
  • hand-delivery to the reception area of the County Manager's Office, 4th floor, Wake County Justice Center; or
  • mail to:
    Clerk to the Board of Commissioners
    P.O. Box 550
    Raleigh NC 27602

The Chair will call the meeting to order and a commissioner will offer an invocation. The Chair will make announcements of a general nature, call for approval of the agenda and approval of minutes of previous meetings, and presentations may be made at this time.

The Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine and may be enacted by one motion. If a commissioner requests, an item may be removed and considered separately.

The Regular Agenda typically begins with advertised public hearings. The Chair will announce the public hearing open, at which time individuals who wish to speak should come forward to the lectern. Each speaker should provide their name and address and then make a clear and concise statement.

The Public Comment period, held during each meeting, is separate from public hearings on specific agenda items. Please submit comments via the methods listed above. Your comments will be shared with Commissioners and documented in the formal minutes for that day's meeting.

Following the citizen comment period, the meeting will resume with the next agenda item scheduled. Reports from the County Manager and County Attorney will be presented under "Other Business."

A closed session may be held, as necessary. Should a closed session be held, the County Attorney will announce the General Statute authorizing the closed session, followed by board action. Following closed session, the Board will return to open session and take action, if needed, followed by meeting adjournment.

Citizens with disabilities requiring special needs to access the meetings of Wake County Board of Commissioners should contact the Board of Commissioners' Office five days prior to the meeting by calling 919-856-6180.
