Robert Jones
Roddy Jones’ professional achievements are diverse and exemplify hard work and service to the community. Mr. Jones, a native of Raleigh, N.C., graduated from East Carolina University in 1958. Soon after graduation, he joined Davidson and Jones Construction Company. Mr. Jones’ work experience ranged from field training to management at all levels of the company. He was appointed President of Davidson and Jones, Inc., in 1973 and continued in that capacity until 1993.
Still a major player in the real estate development and construction community in North Carolina, Mr. Jones currently serves as Chairman of Tri Properties, Inc., Davidson and Jones Hotel Corporation, Davidson and Jones Construction Company and DJ Realty Service. He is a managing member of Davidson and Jones Residential, LLC, and Davidson and Jones Investments, LLC.
He was one of the founders of Highwoods Properties, Inc., a longtime Raleigh real estate development company that went public in 1994 and is traded on the N.Y.S.E. Mr. Jones has provided the vision and leadership for such diverse projects as office and industrial parks, shopping malls, strip centers and hotels. Mr. Jones continues to develop real estate projects both locally and regionally.
Mr. Jones has been involved in the activities of the construction industry, having served as President of the Carolinas Branch of The Associated General Contractors of America, National Director of The Associated General Contractors of America and Chairman of the Carolinas Construction Training Council.
In addition, Mr. Jones has been active in community, civic and educational affairs in North Carolina. He is the past Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina and former Chairman of the Board of East Carolina University. Other education boards include former member of the Board of Directors of Peace College, Shaw University, Ravenscroft School, Board of Visitors of Babcock School of Wake Forest University, and the State Advisory Council of Vocational Education. He has served as Chairman of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and was on the Board of the Tammy Lynn Home, Raleigh Rescue Mission, North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry, The Bank of North Carolina, Carolina Federal Savings and Loan Association, NCNB of North Carolina and was active in the Young Presidents’ Organization. He also has served on the Board of Directors for Giant Group Ltd., Carolina Power & Light Company, and North Carolina State Building Commission. Mr. Jones has also served on the Board of Directors of the Arena Football League, Arena2 Football League and was formerly the managing partner of the Cape Fear Wildcats, LLC, and Carolina Cobras.
Currently, Mr. Jones is a member of the Chief Executives’ Organization, World Presidents’ Organization, and is on the Board of Directors for the N.C. Community Foundation, Louisburg College, the Wake County Education Foundation and the East Carolina Medical Foundation. He serves as a founding director of Capital Bank Corporation.
Mr. Jones is married to Eve Avery Jones. He has three children, Rob, Christi and Russ, and one granddaughter, Adelaide, all of whom reside in Raleigh.
