CCBI Profile

CCBI Field AgentsCCBI consists of a combination of specially trained administrative staff, identification technicians and law enforcement officers. Working together as the county bureau of identification, our law enforcement pursuits are both substantial and important.

CCBI administers the county identification and record bureau for all crimes committed in Wake County that result in a physical arrest. This task involves the collection, documentation and maintenance of each criminal arrest. Our processing responsibilities involve obtaining complete descriptive arrest data and mug shot video photography, all linked to the single-most important instrument of criminal identification, the fingerprint. Nearly every criminal arrested in Wake County is processed by CCBI.

CCBI responds to every crime in Wake County that requires any type of physical evidence examination. These cases range in severity from larceny to homicide. Our goal is simple: search for evidence that can be linked to the perpetrator of the crime. Not only do we find evidence, but, we enhance it, photograph it, process it, develop it, secure it, identify it, protect it and fully document. When that is done, we take it to court and explain it to the jury! While accomplishing this task we use both the old and proven identification techniques and the new state-of-the-art technology and procedures seen on television and movies.

CCBI serves the general public with specialized identification services.  We also provide civilian fingerprint services for those needing help in securing employment with record checks and fingerprint clearances. These activities are huge challenges to a bureau originally designed to serve law enforcement only. We are constantly adjusting our work force and technology to deal with these expanding civilian services. Our mission is serving the general public with their fingerprint identification needs.

CCBI maintains a national reputation and standing among the crime labs across the country. Here we utilize much of the same technology, techniques and protocol as heavily funded federal and state agencies. Our forensic experts locate, examine and identify latent fingerprint, footwear, glove mark, tire track and blood spatter evidence. And when needed in court, we provide expert witness testimony to these conclusions. Our services include the entire Wake Metropolitan Area, cities from Apex to Zebulon and large agencies including the Raleigh Police Department, Wake Sheriff's Office, Secret Service, FBI, U.S. Customs and State Department. Every law enforcement department in Wake County calls on us for assistance.
