Arrestee Processing

CCBI booking areaFor many years, duplicative data entry and paperwork delays plagued CCBI and the law enforcement officers attempting to process their arrestees into the jail. This resulted in the delay of law enforcement officers' returning to their patrols. To improve the situation, CCBI implemented video conferencing to process arrestees. Using video conferencing, the arresting officer speaks with the magistrate via closed-circuit television to establish probable cause. The officer then sends the paperwork via vacuum tube to the magistrate. Once the magistrate signs the paperwork, it is delivered to CCBI for booking. As a result of video conferencing, the process is faster, the officer retains direct custody of the arrestee at all times and the officer quickly returns to the street for patrol.

Arrestee processing has also been improved by a newly renovated booking area. CCBI maintains rooms in the processing area for fingerprinting/booking and for breath testing. The previous CCBI booking area, though smaller, housed about 85% of the workload.

A full-scale renovation of this area allows CCBI to process the approximately 525 people per month that pass through CCBI's processing area. Following this renovation, CCBI increased its capacity to book arrestees from four individuals at a time to six. This increase reduces the risk of arrestees hurting themselves or others.
