Blue Ribbon Committee
Next meeting: Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, from 8:30-11 a.m. at Marbles (formerly Exploris) in downtown Raleigh. (Please note that this meeting was changed from the previous date of Sept 25.)
The Board of Commissioners established the Blue Ribbon Committee on the Future of Wake County on December 5, 2005 (see news release). The committee, chaired by business executives Fred Day and Frank Holding Jr., held its first meeting on January 3, 2006 (see news release). The committee is examining Wake County’s long-term needs for facilities such as schools, libraries and jails, and for transportation, water, sewer and other infrastructure, and will propose future funding strategies.
The Blue Ribbon Committee is a partnership of Wake County, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the Wake County Mayors Association.
The task force is charged with:
- Compiling an inventory of current infrastructure plans and projected costs for public and technical schools, transportation, water and sewer, libraries, parks, open space, jails and public buildings.
- Determining funding needs and gaps.
- Preparing a final report, that was delivered to the Board of Commissioners in May 2006.
