Item Title: Historic Oak View County Park American Association of Museums Accreditation Support Resolution

Specific Action Requested:

That the Board of Commissioners approve a resolution recognizing Historic Oak View County Park as a fixture in the educational and cultural life of Wake County, North Carolina.

Item Summary:

The Board of Commissioners are being asked to approve a resolution supporting Historic Oak View County Park’s effort to receive national accreditation from the American Association of Museums. Accreditation is an important step for Historic Oak View in fulfilling its stated mission to interpret the agricultural heritage and rural farm life of North Carolina through educational programs, special events, and exhibits and providing cultural enrichment and passive recreation opportunities for visitors.

Accreditation will allow the park to better serve county citizens by:

· Aid in reaching artifact and object loan agreements through partnering and peer institutions in support of Historic Oak View’s temporary exhibit program.

· Allow Historic Oak View access to national collections and exhibits that will raise the awareness and educate the public.

· Place Historic Oak View in a group of peer institutions that operate at the highest professional standards.

Accreditation from the American Association of Museums has no budgetary impact on Historic Oak View County Park or Wake County.
