How to Renew Your Books
The library offers different ways for you to access information about your library account without visiting the library. You may use the online Catalog or the Telecirc service to review your current checked out items, fines and overdues, and to renew items. Click on the links below to learn more about these services.
The library's online catalog allows you to access your library account and do several things:
- View the contact information we have on file for you.
- View the list of books checked out to your account.
- Renew your books.
- View a list of requests you've placed.
- Cancel or suspend your requests if you'll be away.
- View late fines and overdue books on your account.
- Change your 4-digit PIN number.
You can access these features at any online catalog in any library branch or from home or work through the Internet. A valid library card number and a four-digit
PIN (Personal Identification Number) are required. If you already have a library card but you need a PIN, call your
local branch or get one the next time you visit the library.
Accessing Your AccountWhen you are using the online catalog you can click
My Account/Search Databases to access your account. A link will also be provided at the end of these instructions. First, log in with your card number and PIN. A new window displaying an overview of your account will open. Click on the tabs at the top of the screen in this new window to access the features described above. When you are finished click
Logout to close your account.
Renewing Materials
To renew your books click the Checked Out/Renew My Books tab. Titles are listed in alphabetical order; to sort by the due date, click the Due Date link at the upper right. To renew all your books, click inside the empty checkbox directly below the Renew button near the top left of the screen. To renew just a few titles, click inside the empty box to the left of each title you want to renew. When you have selected your title(s) to renew, click the Renew button (at the top or bottom of the screen). Scroll through the list to see new due date(s).
Sometimes items are nonrenewable because they are high-demand items or because someone else has requested the item. Items not renewed will have an explanation written in red above the title. If you are unable to renew your book, you will need to bring it to the library by the due date to avoid overdue fines.
Holds
To review your outstanding holds, click the Holds tab at the top of the screen. Requested items ready for pickup lists requests ready for you to pickup, including the library branch in the Location column and the last day the book will be held in the Expires column. Requested items not yet available shows your unfilled requests, including which number you are in the waiting list in the Position column.
You may cancel any of your requests by clicking inside the empty box to the right of the title and then clicking the Cancel Request button.
You may also suspend your requests. For example, if you are going to be out of town until May 1st, you can click inside the empty box to the right of the title and then change the date in the Suspend until boxes at the top right-hand side of the section and click the Change Status button.
