Will you verify that you received my application?
In accordance with the provisions of the Personnel Privacy Statute, NC G.S. 153-98, Human Resources can only acknowledge receipt of your application by return of your self-addressed, stamped Applicant Acknowledgment Card or in person with proper identification (i.e., a picture ID).

What happens to my application once submitted?
Your application materials are subject to a screening process conducted by Human Resources and/or the hiring department. Should you be chosen for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the hiring department.

Is there a deadline for submitting my application?
Your application must be received (not postmarked) in Human Resources by the closing date indicated for a position. Applications received in the mail or delivered in person, must be received no later than 5:15 p.m. of the closing day. Applications must be received via fax no later than 11:59 p.m. of the closing day.

Can I submit a general application or resume to be kept on file in your Human Resources Office?
Human Resources will only accept your application for positions that are currently vacant. A resume will be accepted only as a supplement to your application. If you are interested in a position that is not currently available, you may complete an Interest Card. A completed Interest Card will be kept on file in Human Resources for six months. If within six months, there is an opening in your position of interest, Human Resources will notify you by mail. To request an Interest Card, call our JobLine at 919-856-6115. You will be responsible for ensuring that your application materials are submitted by the advertised closing date.

Do I have to submit an application for every position?
Wake County Human Resources requires that you complete a separate application for each position that you apply for, with the appropriate job title and corresponding job number.

Photocopies and faxed copies of your application materials will be accepted.

What if a position requires a typing test?
If a position requires a typing test, this means that you must schedule an appointment with Human Resources to take the typing test prior to the closing date for the position. If you have taken a scored typing test within the last six months at any valid testing center (i.e., Employment Security Commission, temporary staffing agency, career development center, etc.) that can provide documentation of typing words-per-minute, this will be acceptable. Typing test results must be submitted on original letterhead, indicating test date, typing WPM, and contact person. ALL TEST DOCUMENTATION MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN THE CLOSING DATE FOR CONSIDERATION.

How long are my typing test scores valid?
Your typing test scores are valid for six months from the original test date or until you retest. Applicants may retest and submit their new scores at any time. The most recent score, regardless of test results, will remain on file for six months.

When will I be contacted regarding the status of my application?
You will be contacted by the hiring department if you are selected for an interview. If you have not been selected for an interview, you will be notified by mail upon conclusion of the selection process.

With whom do I speak about qualifying for a position?
If you are applying for any position, with the exception of vacancies within the Sheriff's Office, you may contact Human Resources at 919-856-6090 and ask to speak to a Human Resources Consultant.

Do I have to fill out the entire application or can I just attach a resume?
To be considered for a position, you must complete a Wake County Employment Application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A resume will be accepted only as a supplement to your application.
